The meaning of Summit:

Summit means the top or the highest part of something. In our case, Summit means the highest quality of learning. It is a life philosophy that we abide by. In life, we need to strive to be the highest of every aspect. As an institution, we want our students to be the peak in their areas.

The Life Philosophy of Summit:

Think about a four level pyramid. First we have a base, this is where we start to imagine our dreams, where we start formulating our ideas for what our life will be like. We think about life socially, economically, educationally, about family life, as well as our life in the workplace.

Followed by the base, we have the body of the pyramid. This is the place where we start to draw out the dreams that we have formulated in our base. It is the beginning of the road where our dreams start to become a reality. Our areas socially, economically, educationally, with our family, as well as in our work place start to feel real.

Subsequently, we have the head of the pyramid. The head is the place where everything starts to be top of our life. Little by little, our life is changing and improving. The beginning of the road is now the middle of the road where we are seeing the reality of what our life is becoming. This is the area where we integrate all of our phases in life and they are moving in the right direction.

Finally, we have the summit. The summit is the top of every feature, the level that we should all aspire to be. It is very tough to reach the summit of the pyramid, but you must know you want to reach it. When you reach the summit, your life is shaped as you want it to be shaped or simply the process of going that way and growing in all aspects will make you a better individual.

For SIU, the summit means the top that we should all aspire to reach. It is the goal, the dream of what we want our life to be like. Just like the pyramid, our life is made up of levels that we seek.
